Galaxy AI Criticized For Inconsistency In Skin Color Description

JAKARTA - Samsung introduced the Galaxy AI feature along with last year's launch of the Galaxy S24 series. The company developed a series of artificial intelligence to create user interactions with Samsung devices, such as the newly released Galaxy S25 series, becoming more intuitive and beneficial.

Although it is one of the most advanced and feature-rich AIs, Galaxy AI does not escape the problem. A Reddit user finds inconsistencies in the Galaxy AI content filtering system regarding the skin color description.

Apparently, the Galaxy AI content filtering system has an inconsistency in describing certain skin tones. In an upload on Reddit, users with the name P26601 share several screenshots showing how the Composer 'assistent writing Galaxy AI' checks spelling and grammar feature is.

In the screenshot, the phrase "my skin is white" can be checked without a problem. However, when the user tries to check the phrase "my skin is black", Galaxy AI refuses and displays a warning that the text may contain "inappropriate content."

Furthermore, the phrase "my skin is brown" does not have problems and is not considered a problematic content. Meanwhile, the Galaxy AI content filter also seems tighter when a person describes other people's skin tones. When users try to check the phrase "his skin is white" or "his skin is black", Galaxy AI marks it as inappropriate content.

Like many other artificial intelligence assistants, Galaxy AI is still far from perfect. This is not the first time this system has received criticism regarding its content moderation policies. Last year, some users questioned Galaxy AI's screening policy, especially because it was considered too strict in limiting the use of certain words.

In one case, a Reddit user revealed that they cannot use the word "poop" in conversations with their pediatrician. In another case, Galaxy AI marks the phrase "cute, adorable, and hot" as inappropriate, because the word "hot" is considered problematic.

These problems show that Samsung still needs to improve content moderation policies on Galaxy AI. It is hoped that the company will listen to feedback from the user community so that this technology becomes better and does not cause bias in its use.
