JAKARTA - Cyber criminals are increasingly using artificial intelligence to make attacks more convincing. AI can now help write malicious programs, compose fake emails, determine targets, and even run some attacks automatically.

Quoted from Anadolu Agency, Saturday, July 11, Finnish cyber security officials assessed that the threat level was still high. Phishing, ransomware, account theft, and supply chain attacks are among the most common dangers.

Phishing is a scam through fake messages or websites to steal data. Ransomware is a malicious program that locks data and demands ransom. Meanwhile, supply chain attacks target suppliers or partners connected to an organization's system.

Head of Research at cybersecurity firm Sensofusion Mikko Hypponen said AI makes cybercrime more efficient. Attackers can use it to write malware or malicious software, create phishing emails, search for targets, and automate some attacks.

"AI writes Finnish better than most Finns," Hypponen said, as quoted by Finland's public broadcaster, Yle.

This ability allows the perpetrator to compose false messages in Finnish that are more natural and convincing. The complexity of the language is no longer a barrier to online fraud.

The Director General of the Finnish National Cyber Security Centre or NCSC-FI Anssi Karkkainen said AI makes attacks "easier, cheaper, and more convincing".

The risk increases when the perpetrator disguises himself as a person or organization that the victim trusts.

However, Karkkainen emphasized that AI is not the main cause of the increasing threat. The motive for making money, weak cyber protection, and the increasing number of systems connected to the internet also open up opportunities for attacks.

The Check Point Software Technologies report noted that cyber attacks on targets in Finland increased compared to June last year. Education, research, public administration, and telecommunications are among the most targeted sectors.

Experts recommend that organizations routinely update software, monitor devices and systems, and maintain data backups that can be used in the event of an attack.
