JAKARTA Instagram, a platform under the auspices of Meta, is testing a new feature that could show disapproval of a comment. This feature will be added to the comments column.

This new button-shaped feature was revealed by the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, after several users revealed their findings in Threads. For lucky users, they will see a button disliked in the comments column of an upload.

This dislike button is right next to the like button, it's just that it looks very different. If the button likes to use a heart-shaped icon, users can show their dislike by tapping the arrow icon down.

"Some of you may have seen that we're testing a new button next to the comments on Instagram."

"This gives people a personal way to signal that they don't like certain comments," Mosseri said, quoted from his personal Threads account on February 14, 2025.

The notification system of these two buttons is also different. If the user will know who left the likes, Instagram will not show it to the comment creator or the person who views the comments.

The platform will not show how much like a comment receives. This dislike button can only be read and processed by the system. Thanks to this feature, comments that many people don't like will be made not stand out.

"Later on, we will probably integrate this signal into comments to lower comments rankings that are not liked."

"Our hope is that this can help make comments more friendly on Instagram," said Mosseri.
