JAKARTA - With the release of Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT integration, now you can use Siri to get answers from OpenAI AI services. Here are how to install, set, and enable Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT, as well as how to use it together in the Notes application.
After activating Siri and ChatGPT extensions in Apple Intelligence system settings, you can directly use Siri to trigger ChatGPT to provide answers. There is also an additional feature where you can type prompts directly to Siri and ask for answers using ChatGPT.
Before you can use the ChatGPT in the Apple app, you need to enable Apple Intelligence, Siri, and ChatGPT extensions in the System Settings (or Settings on iOS) application.
If you haven't installed Apple Intelligence on Mac or iOS devices, you can follow the steps in the previous article to install and prepare everything. You need macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later, or iOS 18.2 or later. Apple Intelligence requires a Mac with Apple Silicon or the iPhone 15 Pro or later.
For Macs, open System Settings in the Application folder on the Startup Disk (or through the Apple menu), then scroll down and click on Apple Intelligence & Siri on the left.
Initial Settings
Once Apple Intelligence is installed and running, you need to enable Siri and several other settings, also mentioned in the previous article. These settings are in the System Settings -> Apple Intelligence & Siri section below the "Siri Requests" section. You need to make sure these settings are active:
Finally, you need to enable ChatGPT integration under the Extensions section. There is also a switch in the ChatGPT Extension panel called Confirm ChatGPT Requests, which if activated, Siri will ask if you want to send a request to ChatGPT. If this setting is turned off, you will not be promoted.
Settings on iOS
Settings in iOS are similar in the Settings app. On iOS, you need to enable Talk and Type to Siri settings.
Using Siri With ChatGPT
By activating all Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT Extension features, you basically turn Siri into an interface for ChatGPT, where you can type in questions and get answers. This is similar to how you type your prompt directly in the ChatGPT application on macOS or iOS.
The keyboard shortcut set in Siri Requests will open the text prompt Type to Siri, where you can type in questions. The combination of default keyboards to enable Type to Siri is to press the Command button twice on the keyboard.
To ask the ChatGPT using the Type to Siri, simply press the keyboard combination, type your question, and press Return. If the confirmation switch in the ChatGPT Extension is active and Siri is unable to handle the prompt, you will be asked to confirm if you want to send the question to the ChatGPT.
On iOS, you can enable Type to Siri by double tapping on any text field.

Response From ChatGPT
When you type a prompt on Siri, Siri will try to answer using Apple Intelligence first. If you can't give an answer, Siri will ask if you want to try using ChatGPT with the message "Do you want me to use ChatGPT to answer that?" along with two buttons: Search the Web or Use ChatGPT. If you choose the last one, Siri will forward the question to ChatGPT.
The answer will be given in a small shot just below the Type to Siri text field. The response from Type to Siri is indeed a little slower than using ChatGPT directly, but this is natural because you go through two layers of the system, namely the interaction between Apple's ecosystem and OpenAI servers via the internet.
Integration of Type to Siri with Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT is a big step in facilitating AI usage and getting answers quickly. This feature is easy to use, is available throughout the system, and does not require third-party applications. It will be interesting to see how this system develops in the future.
