Apple Reportedly Soon Appoints Folding Screen Suppliers

JAKARTA - A new report claims that Apple's decision regarding its main supplier of folding screens will soon be announced, although it is not yet clear whether this is for the iPhone Fold or other devices.

Although previous rumors stated that Apple would not release a foldable device before 2027, the latest leak states that the company is finalizing a major supplier contract for its folding screen.

"Apple's core decision regarding its folding screen supplier will soon be taken," wrote the leaker youx1122 (in translation). "The industry estimates [Apple] will make a decision between the end of February and early April."

The leak also claims that Apple has very strict technical requirements. "Some related component companies are close to achieving Apple's requested standards," the leak continued, as quoted by Apple Insider's VOI.

These requirements are said to include screen thickness, violence, and curvature radius. However, this leak does not specify what device will use the folding screen or whether it is only for one type of device.

Possible Device Options

Although the iPhone Fold is the most frequently reported device, recent claims state that Apple is designing a folding iPad. Specifically, it is stated that a large iPad Pro with a folding screen can be available on the market in 2028.

In addition, Apple is also reportedly considering screen sizes for the MacBook Profold. Ming-Chi Kuo analysts in May 2024 said that Apple is working with suppliers for screens measuring 18.8 inches and 20.25 inches. This foldable MacBook Pro is said to resemble a large iPad with a foldable central part.

In a May 2024 report, Kuo claims that Apple has chosen LG Display as a screen supplier for its MacBook Pro. Previously, the launch of this device was predicted in 2027, but Kuo believes that its launch could occur in 2026.
