The AI DeepSek App Overtakes ChatGPT Popularity On The App Store

JAKARTA DeepSeek, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based application, has surpassed ChatGPT's popularity on the App Store. The application owned by the Chinese startup is the top free app on the US App Store.

This is a good achievement for DeepSek developers. Although it was only released on January 10, 2025, the interest of the US community in this application continues to increase. The peak occurred on January 27, 2025, taking the top spot.

This achievement was first shared by Sensor Tower, a research firm that continues to record applications. The company has not disclosed anything after DeepSeeks surpassed ChatGPT on Apple's app stores.

DeepSek won praise because this AI model is able to match or even exceed the US-made AI model. By presenting DeepSek V3, this application is trained using NVIDIA's H800 chipset.

The funds spent were not much, only less than 6 million US dollars (Rp97.4 billion). Initially, the effectiveness of this technology was questioned because the chipset used was considered less powerful and the cost of training was not too expensive.

However, the findings in the App Store suggest otherwise. Many are interested in the DeepSek application. In fact, this application became the first company to be praised for its performance by the US technology industry.

Please note that DeepSek was built by a startup company that was just established in 2023 when Baidu just released China's first major language AI model. The company is in Hangzhou, China.
