JAKARTA - The Brazilian government has given Meta 72 hours until Monday to explain about their new policy of removing the US fact-checking program and reducing restrictions on political discussions.
In his statement, Attorney General Jorge Messias revealed that Brazil is deeply concerned about the new policy taken by Mark Zuckerberg's company.
"I would like to convey the big concern of the Brazilian government about the policies taken by Meta companies, which are like airport wind directions, which always change position according to wind direction," he said, citing Reuters.
He also emphasized that the Brazilian people would not comply with such policies. Apparently, Brazil is worried about Meta's new policy.
Earlier, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also said the change was very serious, and announced that he should discuss the topic.
Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has just announced the company's big move to restore their focus on freedom of expression on the Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms.

This new policy was taken because according to Meta, too much content is harmless censored, too many people are mistakenly locked up in 'Facebook prison', and we are often too slow to respond when that happens," he explained on Tuesday, January 7.
