JAKARTA - In providing support for the development of games in Indonesia, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) released the book The Game Industry Ecosystem Map in Indonesia in 2021.

As the largest country in terms of population and income in Southeast Asia, it is certainly not a strange thing if Indonesia is also the largest market for the video game industry. Unfortunately, the role and size of the local game industry is still limited.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics, the Indonesian Game Association (AGI), and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) conducted research on the game industry in Indonesia. Further research was conducted with the Asian game industry research firm, Niko Partners.

Niko Partners conducted a survey of gamers conducted in Indonesia covering 1,000 respondents and delivered in Indonesian.

The public opinion survey includes 500 respondents from various regions in Indonesia. with representative samples based on gender, geographical location, and type of work (using data from the Central Statistics Agency as a reference).

As a result, the study revealed that the number of mobile game players was in first place with 121.7 million players in 2021. Then followed by PC game players as many as 53.4 million players.

In addition, research also proves that Indonesians prefer to play games via smartphone (84.3%). While gamers who like to play on desktop computers are 43%.

This number is then followed by Laptop (20.3%), Tablet (14.8%), Console (9.5%), and finally via the Gaming Box (Smart TV) platform of 1%.

Gamers in Indonesia also spend the majority of their playing time on smartphones, with an average of 11 hours per week. Then, the average computer game player spends about 8-9 hours per week playing games. While console gamers spend at least 7 hours per week.

From the results of the Niko Partners survey, it was also found that there was a gap in the gender ratio of game players who were interested in filling out the survey. The game's survey respondents consisted of 17.6% women and 82.4% men.

If you look at the age range of game players in Indonesia, almost 90% of the game players who fill this survey are under 36 years old. While 46.4% of respondents aged between 24-29 years and 29.8% are between 30-35 years old.
