To Save Earth, NASA Will Collision Spacecraft To Asteroids

NASA ready to launch DART mission for plane crash to asteroid Didymos (UniverseToday)

JAKARTA - The United States National Space Agency (NASA) plans to crash a plane into the asteroid Didymos, which is predicted to be getting closer to Earth. Therefore, NASA is preparing to launch the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission.

Launching SputnikNews, NASA will launch the mission on November 23 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. NASA's spacecraft for the DART mission will be carried by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

The DART mission is a mission to crash a spacecraft into an asteroid at high speed. This is intended to change the path of the asteroid that was previously predicted to hit Earth.

"Involves sending one or more large, high-speed spacecraft into the path of an asteroid in space to change its motion," NASA wrote in a press release.

NASA is targeting the asteroid Didymos which is approaching Earth. In addition, the US Space Agency also revealed that they aim to evaluate technologies that can be used in the future in anticipating the threat of asteroids.

This is one of NASA's efforts to prevent an asteroid that has the potential to hit Earth so that it does not take lives and damage on Earth.

"DART is the first step in testing methods for dangerous asteroid deflections," said NASA DART program executive Adrea Riley.

"Potentially hazardous asteroids are of global concern, and we are delighted to be working with our Italian and European counterparts to collect data as accurately as possible from this demonstration of kinetic impact deflection," he added.

In addition, NASA scientist Thomas Statler said that NASA will destroy asteroids that threaten Earth so that humans do not return to the Stone Age.

"We're going to make sure that rocks from space don't send us back to the Stone Age," Statler said.
