JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate revealed that the French Government will finance the construction of Indonesia's data center. Johnny made this statement during his meeting with the French ambassador to Indonesia HE Olivier Chambard at the office of the Ministry of Communication and Information.

Johnny also conveyed several things related to two other collaborations to support the acceleration of digital transformation in Indonesia, including the Improvement on Television Transmitting Stations (ITTS) and the Satria Satellite Project.

"The French Ambassador came to convey again the seriousness of the French Government to take part in three projects in the ICT sector in Indonesia today. So we ask for France's readiness and willingness to accelerate the government's data center construction project in Indonesia. This is financed by the French Government," said Johnny. in its official statement, Friday 17 July.

The French government also emphasized that it was ready to have adequate financing and technology. Currently, Johnny said, the Indonesian government is in the process of finalizing the location where the data center will be built.

"What is certain is that the data center itself is in the Greater Jakarta area," said Johnny.

Unfortunately, both parties were reluctant to mention the amount of funds disbursed or used to finance the construction of the data center.

Microsoft and Google

Previously, there was also Microsoft which planned to build a data center in Indonesia. Responding to the plan, Indonesian President Joko Widodo or who is familiarly called Jokowi also said he would immediately prepare regulations to support the plans of companies based in the United States (US).

"When meeting with the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, about the data center. I say that I will complete the regulations in one week," Jokowi explained at the Digital Economy Summit in Jakarta, last February.

However, Jokowi remembers that currently the government is still discussing the Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP), so a simple regulation will be made to meet the needs of the data center investment plan.

In addition, technology giant Google has also officially operated its first data center in Indonesia. Based on Cloud Platform services, Google is ready to help companies and startups in Indonesia accelerate digital transformation.

"Google Cloud is here to support your digital transformation with the same technology, as our other products such as Google Search and Gmail," said Pichai in his keynote speech, Wednesday, June 24.

Through this data center, Google Cloud provides five services consisting of computing, database, storage and security, big data, and networking. Not only that, users of this service can take advantage of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to find solutions, to develop business ideas quickly and easily.
