JAKARTA – After the name Huawei was blacklisted by the United States (US), the Chinese technology giant had difficulty developing its business. Now Huawei is reportedly starting to strengthen the company's ecosystem by reducing dependence on a number of US technology companies including Google.

Huawei has managed to develop its own operating system, HarmonyOS. This makes Huawei an independent company where a number of technology devices no longer use Google's Android operating system. In its home country, HarmonyOS is better known as Hongmeng.

At the launch of the latest Smart Office product, Huawei announced that the number of users of its devices that received an operating system upgrade to HarmonyOS 2 had exceeded 200 million. The good news was conveyed by Yu Chengdong as CEO of Consumer BG Huawei.

The latest information states that there are already hundreds of Huawei device models that have received an upgrade to HarmonyOS 2. In the future, HarmonyOS will be available for various models including older versions of smartphones and tablets made by Huawei and Honor.

In just 3 months, Huawei has been able to upgrade the devices belonging to 100 million Huawei users. The company targets the increase to reach 300 to 400 million devices. For information, HarmonyOS has been released since last June 2.

The Chinese tech giant was blacklisted in May 2019, when the US was led by Donald Trump. The US accuses Huawei of being a threat to national security. As a result, Huawei cannot establish cooperation in the technology business environment, including with Google.

Therefore, Huawei phones are not equipped with a number of Google applications such as Gmail, YouTube, Maps, and the Android operating system. These conditions prompted Huawei to create HarmonyOS so that its business could continue to grow.
