JAKARTA - Samsung officially introduced the ISOCELL HP1, an image sensor measuring 200 MP with a photodiode size of 0.64 micrometers (μm). Making it the highest camera sensor in its class.

Citing the official Samsung website, Friday, September 3, simultaneously, the South Korean giant also announced the ISOCELL GN5 50 MP as the first sensor to adopt Dual Pixel Pro AF technology.

The ISOCELL HP1 is known to adopt the latest ChameleonCell technology, a pixel-binning technology that uses a double, quadruple, or full pixel layout depending on the environment. With this sensor, the camera can record 8K video at 30 fps with a high field of view.

The sensor can combine four pixels to lower the resolution to 50MP or 8,192 x 6,144 to capture 8K (7,680 x 4,320) video without cropping or reducing the full image resolution. In low light environments, the HP1 turns into a 12.5 MP image sensor by combining 16 pixels into 1 so that it can absorb more light.

Meanwhile, the Samsung ISOCELL GN5 is the industry's first 1.0 micrometer image sensor to integrate Dual Pixel Pro technology. This is an all-way AF technology that can substantially improve autofocus capabilities.

The technology places two photodiodes in each 1.0 micrometer pixel both horizontally and vertically to recognize changing patterns in all directions. With one million phase-detection multi-directional photodiodes covering all sensor areas, AF performance is even faster.

The GN5 image sensor also uses Samsung's proprietary pixel technology, which applies Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) to Dual Pixel products for the first time in the industry. Regardless of the size of the microscopic photodiode, FDTI allows each photodiode to absorb and store more light information, increasing the photodiode full-well capacity (FWC) and reducing crosstalk in pixels.

According to Samsung's statement, the company has shipped both the ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL GN5 sensors to the phone manufacturer. Most likely there will be a phone that adopts the sensor, many claim it is the Galaxy S22 series with a 200 MP camera sensor.
