Clubhouse Adds Spatial Audio Capabilities, Makes Chats More Real

JAKARTA - Clubhouse has just launched an upgrade to its service, by adding spatial audio capabilities. Allows people to speak using their true voice, and makes them more responsible.

Quoting Engadget, Monday, August 30, with the presence of spatial audio, it gives users and other participants an experience like chatting in the real world. Users will probably remember who spoke based on where the voice came from, not just what it sounded like.

While this spatial audio allows for better differentiation between each sound. For example (see the video in the Clubhouse post on Twitter), that John's voice will come from the left, while Jane's voice will come from the right during the chat.

To simulate audio distance, the Clubhouse software will now assign a specific position to each speaker in the room. Clubhouse says that music and stereo sources will also be positioned, and maintain the stereo separation set in the artificial space.

The only interesting thing is that the speakers themselves will not get the same experience, the spatial audio will only be active for their participants. Of course it can present some management challenges as the event progresses, but it can also help those in the room to better follow the conversation.

In addition, this spatial audio can later be used on all wired and wireless headphones, but unfortunately users can't use Bluetooth audio due to technical limitations, but Clubhouse promises to learn more.

However, this feature is only available for iOS users, while on Android devices, the company promises to bring it soon. This update will certainly help Clubhouse with 10 million users last May maintain audience interest, as the app appears to be facing stiff competition. Now the Clubhouse can accommodate around 700,000 rooms in the app every day, a 130 percent increase from three months ago.
