Do Not Want To Be Left Behind, YouTube Is Testing The TikTok Style Video Feature

JAKARTA - It is undeniable that TikTok is a social media application that is very popular with the world community today. Not a few other companies are trying to find ways to compete with TikTok's popularity.

Instagram, for example, is currently testing the Reels feature in its application. A feature that allows users to record short videos with various music in it.

Recently, YouTube is also trying out a similar feature for mobile devices in its application. Where YouTube users can upload a 15-second video or pieces of TikTok-style clips

"We will always experiment and test new ways for content creators to find, watch, share and interact with the many videos that are made," said a YouTube representative, as quoted by Tech Crunch, Tuesday, June 30.

In the trial, users will find the option "create a video" in the YouTube application. After that, users only need to press and hold (tap and hold) the record button to start making a video.

Similar to TikTok, users can record more than one video to get the 15 second footage they want. Furthermore, YouTube will assemble the entire clip into one complete video that can be uploaded directly or stored in the gallery.

This video sharing platform also does not provide other details regarding the testing of its new features, such as whether to add filters, effects, music, AR, or buttons to change the speed of the video. Including when YouTube will release this feature.

"This is one of many experiments we run around the clock on YouTube, and we will consider rolling out the feature more broadly based on feedback on this experiment," wrote YouTube.

This isn't the first time YouTube has experimented with other popular platform features. In 2017, YouTube released a feature similar to Instagram's Stories and Snapchat.

Even so, it's pretty clear that YouTube is quite interested in following the format and features of the short video application popularized by TikTok. Moreover, this method is considered by YouTube to keep millennials interested as a popular platform.
