JAKARTA - Microsoft has just improved some of the default applications available in Windows 11. Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel are now testing new updates for the Snipping Tool, Calculator, Mail, and Calendar applications.

As reported by Engadget, Friday, August 13, the company replaced the classic Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch apps in Windows 11 with a new Snipping Tool app that combines the best features of both apps.

The keyboard shortcut Win + Shift + S will be the primary way to take screenshots in Windows 11, and it will activate a snipping menu with various options for choosing what content to capture in the screenshot.

After taking a screenshot, users will find various tools that allow them to edit and add image captions. With Windows 11, the Snipping Tool will also include a dark mode, and users can set it regardless of the system theme.

Microsoft also updated the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows 11 to match the operating system's new visual style. The company has added rounded corners and other adjustments to make it look and feel as part of Windows 11.

Lastly, the Calculator app has also received an update, including a dark mode that can be set independently of Windows. The company has also rewritten the software in C# in the hope that more people will contribute to its development on GitHub.

Finally, Windows 11 testers can now try out one-to-one and group audio or video calls in Microsoft Teams. Users can also share screens, as is often done in the regular Microsoft Teams app.

According to Dave Grochocki, lead senior program manager for Windows inbox apps, Microsoft plans to release even more updates for apps coming in Windows 11. To try out the suite of updated apps above, you'll need to be in Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel.
