All-Environmentally Friendly, Ralph Lauren Creates US Team Uniform At The Tokyo Olympics With Sustainable Technology

JAKARTA - Ralph Lauren has unveiled the parade uniforms for the United States team for the opening ceremonies of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on July 23, and the Paralympics on July 24. The brand is also introducing a new wearable temperature standalone cooling device. The device is called the RL Cooling, which integrates seamlessly into the jacket for team flag bearers to wear during the ceremony.

This RL Cooling System dissipates heat from the wearer's skin through a device that monitors and optimizes temperature. RL says they use the same technology used to cool the world's most advanced computer systems. That cooling sensation is immediate and long-lasting, even in the most intense heat.

Ralph Lauren first embarked on his exploration of the sports costume field with his debut in making heated jackets at the Winter Olympics in South Korea in 2018. Research conducted by the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, an agency of the US Department of Energy, shows that personal thermal management is a a portable, localized solution that, when scalable, has the potential to reduce reliance on bulk cooling systems, such as HVAC systems for personal convenience.

The launch of RL Cooling is built to pioneer sustainable innovation, which has been carried out by Color on Demand, an environmentally friendly dyeing platform that uses sustainable technology.

The Team USA 2020 opening ceremony parade uniform also combines eco-friendly materials with a navy blazer, which is made from wool grown in the US. Next up is the striped T-shirt powered by Ecofast Pure, an advanced pre-treatment solution by Dow that allows cotton to be dyed with less water, chemicals and energy.

There are also patterned scarves, shoes and masks made from US-grown cotton, a striped belt made from Repreve recycled polyester, and light denim pants with a back patch made from Mirum, a renewable leather. All ideas about sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies are applied by RL on the uniforms of the US team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
