Twitter Mimics And Other Employees May Work Forever From Home

JAKARTA - Many employees in various companies have had to work from home or Work From Home (WFH) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But what happens, if the company actually allows its employees to continue working from home forever.

This unusual decision was taken by Twitter, which asked employees not to have to come to work anymore. Alias, they can continue to work from home forever if they wish to.

Launching The Guardian, Twitter is the first company to implement WFH policies permanently even though the COVID-19 pandemic has passed or the lockdown rules are lifted. This is Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's latest policy.

"We will make it a reality. Where we have been very wise in dealing with this (COVID-19), since then we will be one of the first companies to move to the work-from-home model permanently," said Twitter.

In his email, Dorsey also said that Twitter might not open an office before September 2020. Even so, there are some exceptions for employees who need a physical presence, such as server maintenance to keep coming to work.

"Otherwise, our office will still warmly receive them, with some health and safety records," the statement read.

It's no wonder Twitter has finally implemented WFH permanently. Because Dorsey in February has expressed his desire for Twitter employees to work anywhere.

Dorsey also suspected that a 'New Normal' would occur after the COVID-19 pandemic had passed. Therefore, he wants Twitter companies and employees to adapt quickly without having to be bothered by the problem of the viral pandemic.

"Our employees shouldn't be concentrated in San Francisco and we want employees to be more distributed so that it will improve our (business) execution," said Dorsey.

Facebook and Google

Prior to Twitter, Facebook and Google also allowed their employees to continue working from home until at least the end of 2020. Although there were some employees who would be asked to come into the office occasionally.

Reported by The Verge, employees of Facebook and Google have been implementing WFH since last March. The move was taken after state governments in America extended the lockdown period to reduce the number of COVID-19 infections.

Nor do they plan to open several of their offices before July 6. This step was taken by Facebook and Google after considering a number of information from various health agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Johns Hopkins, including guidance from the US government.
