JAKARTA - Apple officially introduced a new option for app developers on the App Store in the form of a monthly subscription with a commitment of 12 months.

This new scheme allows developers to offer prices equivalent to annual packages, but paid in monthly installments to make it more affordable for users.

The policy is a strategic move for Apple to expand the flexibility of the application monetization model, as well as answer the needs of consumers who want a lighter subscription fee without losing the benefits of an annual discount.

In its announcement, Apple explained that users can still cancel their subscriptions at any time. However, the cancellation only prevents automatic renewal after all payment obligations in accordance with the 12-month commitment have been completed. In other words, users must still complete all payments that have been agreed upon in the commitment period.

Apple Pushes for Payment Flexibility

Apple says this feature is designed with the principle of transparency. Users will be able to clearly see the amount of payments made and the remaining payments that must be completed in their annual commitments.

In addition, Apple will send an email and optional push notification ahead of the renewal period so that customers do not miss important information related to their subscription.

For developers, this new subscription option can be created through App Store Connect and tested through Xcode starting today. The feature is scheduled to be available to users on iOS 26.4 and equivalent versions on other Apple platforms next month, along with the launch of iOS 26.5 and related system updates.

However, there is an important note: the markets of the United States and Singapore will not be able to access this subscription model for the time being.

Apple has not explained the reason for the exclusion, nor when the feature will be available in both countries.

On a business level, this move shows how Apple continues to adapt its service ecosystem to the trend of subscription economies.

The annual subscription installment model has the potential to increase customer retention because the initial cost barrier is lower, while developers still get long-term revenue certainty.

For consumers, this approach presents an interesting compromise - a more economical price like an annual package, but without the obligation to pay in full in advance.
