JAKARTA - WhatsApp is developing a standalone cloud backup system. This new service is present to reduce user dependence on third-party services such as Google Drive and iCloud.

Along with the many improvements that WhatsApp has presented, the size of the platform's backup continues to swell. In fact, this swelling often consumes free storage quotas in external cloud services.

To provide ease in the future, users will be given the freedom to choose the location of their data storage. One of the options is to use WhatsApp's dedicated server which offers free storage of up to 2 GB.

WhatsApp promises end-to-end encryption in this offered cloud storage. Users can choose a password-based encryption method so they don't have to bother remembering complicated passwords.

If you prefer the traditional method, WhatsApp still provides the option of encryption using a manual password or a 64-digit key. All of these methods are offered to ensure that only the user has legal access to his or her personal data backup in the cloud.

In addition to the free option, WhatsApp also plans to offer an additional storage package with a capacity of 50 GB. This paid package is expected to be sold for 0.99 dollars (Rp17 thousand) to accommodate media files with a larger scale.

This cloud storage feature is still in the development stage. WhatsApp will launch this feature gradually to beta testers before launching for all users.
