JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid invites young people, especially university graduates, to become guardians of Indonesia's digital space.

"In the post-truth era, our challenge is no longer on access to information, but on its quality. Therefore, graduates must also be able to play a role as agents of change and become guides for digital literacy in their respective areas," said Meutya, quoted by Antara, Sunday, April 26.

The rapid flow of information in the digital era creates new challenges in the form of information flooding and even misinformation. Therefore, college graduates are required to play an active role not only as users of technology but as agents of change to maintain the quality of information in the digital space.

The Minister of Communication and Information said the government took firm steps to reduce the risk of exposure to negative content through adaptive regulations, namely Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children or PP Tunas, which limits access to digital platforms at risk for children under the age of 16.

"We want to convey to the graduates to also be ambassadors of Tunas who can help the government maintain the sustainability of our children so that they can live in the digital realm and get the best and remove the harmful ones," said Meutya.

The high level of technology adoption in Indonesia is both a strength and a challenge. On one hand, adoption shows a high level of adaptation, but on the other hand, people need to strengthen digital literacy and ethical awareness in the use of technology, including artificial intelligence or AI.

The management of the national digital space, said the Minister of Communication and Information, is based on the principle of prudence and vigilance. The state ensures that the use of technology is carried out by taking into account aspects of security, transparency and human interests.

"We still have to be careful so that the adoption of AI is followed by a sense of responsibility, security, ethics, transparency, and human-centric orientation. So regulating it strictly is one way we can secure without being hostile to innovation," said Minister of Communication and Information Meutya.

He also emphasized that the country cannot work alone in facing the challenges of the digital era and needs collaboration from all elements, including young people.

Meutya reminded university graduates that their responsibilities are not limited to academic achievement, but rather begin when they enter society with the mission of maintaining and building a safer, ethical, and competitive Indonesian digital space.
