JAKARTA - YouTube has launched a new feature that allows users to set a time limit for watching Shorts to zero minutes. This option makes short-form videos no longer appear in the feed.
Previously, YouTube introduced a timer for the Shorts feed in October last year, but the minimum limit available at that time was 15 minutes.
After the time is up, users will receive a pop-up reminding them to take a break from scrolling through short videos. But with this update, users will stop scrolling through content continuously, especially on mobile devices.
Launching Engadget, YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, said the zero-minute limit feature is already available to all parents and is being rolled out gradually to all users, including adult accounts.
This update is a continuation of the feature expansion in January which aims to give parents more control in limiting the time children scroll through Shorts.
In testing, when the time limit is reached, Shorts content also no longer appears on the home page. This means that by setting the limit to zero minutes, users can completely ignore Shorts within the application.
To activate it, users can open the settings menu in the YouTube app, then select "Time management", enable the Shorts feed limit option, and specify the desired duration.
This feature is expected to help users manage application usage time and reduce the habit of scrolling through short videos excessively.
