JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Komdigi) Meutya Hafid appreciates the attitude of the X and Bigo Live platforms in complying with child protection regulations that were officially implemented on Saturday, March 28.
Both platforms are considered fast in adjusting their system policies in accordance with the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
The adjustment of the system that X and Bigo Live took is referred to as the minimum standard for all electronic system organizers in Indonesia. Meutya emphasized that this compliance is not just a commitment, but a real action in changing features and services.
The X platform has set a change in the minimum age limit for users to 16 years old, according to a statement on the X help center page. In addition, X is also mass-disabling underage user accounts starting today.
Meanwhile, Bigo Live set a minimum age limit of 18 years in its latest privacy policy. They also strengthened a layered moderation system that combines Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human supervision to filter users.
"The government has instructed all digital platforms that do business in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. I emphasize that there is no compromise in terms of compliance to be able to operate in Indonesia," Meutya said in a press conference on Friday, March 27.
For other platforms that have not complied with the regulation, the government asks the platform to adjust their applications without delay. This needs to be done immediately to maintain a digital environment for children under the age of 16.
The punishment in the form of a firm administrative action has also been prepared for parties who violate the provisions of the PP TUNAS. The government is committed to enforcing these rules responsibly and consistently.
