JAKARTA - The White House presented a humanoid robot in an official event discussing children and technology. In an Esquire report quoted Friday, March 27, the robot named Figure 03 appeared to accompany Melania Trump on the last day of the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition forum, Wednesday, March 25.

The event is said to aim to help children learn, grow, and develop through the use of safe and innovative advanced technology. However, the main focus is on Figure 03, a humanoid made by the robotics company Figure AI.

At an event in the White House's East Room, Figure 03 greeted guests with a synthesized female voice. The robot introduced itself as an American-made humanoid and greeted in English, Spanish, Japanese, and French.

"Thank you to Melania Trump for inviting me to the White House," said Figure 03.

After that, the robot turned around and left the room. Melania then referred to Figure 03 as the first American-made humanoid guest at the White House.

According to Esquire, Figure 03 was first introduced to the public in October by San Jose-based Figure AI. The product is marketed as a household assistant to help with domestic work. On the company's official website, there is no indication that the robot is designed to teach children.

The presence of Figure 03 in the education forum then drew its own attention. In his speech, Melania said the future of AI would come in the form of human-like beings to benefit. He also invited guests to imagine a "humanoid educator" named Plato who could help teach children.

Esquire assessed that the appearance of the robot showed how forums discussing education and children were also used to showcase the latest developments in AI and robotics technology. On the one hand, it shows technological progress. On the other hand, questions arise about the limits of the role of robots in the world of education and the position of human teachers in the midst of this development.

Melania said the safety of the next generation remains the main thing. However, discussions about the use of humanoid robots in education are expected to continue as AI technology progresses faster.
