Jakarta - Apple is reportedly preparing a major update for its digital assistant, Siri, which is expected to be introduced at Apple's annual developer conference, the Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC 2026, in June.

According to technology journalist Mark Gurman's report in Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, Siri updates are one of Apple's top priorities this year. The internal project, called "Campo", will change the way Siri works and looks to resemble modern chatbots such as ChatGPT and Claude.

In this update, Siri will not only experience interface changes, but also improved conversational capabilities. Apple is said to be utilizing Google's AI model, specifically Google Gemini technology, as the basis for the development of Apple Foundation Models which will be the foundation for the new generation of Siri.

The cooperation agreement is reported to be worth around 1 billion US dollars per year. The technology will later be used to improve Siri's intelligence across the Apple ecosystem, from iOS, iPadOS to macOS.

Although previously the Siri update was expected to be present in the iOS 26.4 developer beta version, until now the feature has not appeared in the latest test build. This makes WWDC 2026 the most realistic stage to introduce Siri's major transformation.

In addition to focusing on artificial intelligence, Apple is also said to be improving the quality of software as a whole across its ecosystem. One of the interesting changes concerns the design of the Liquid Glass interface, which was first introduced in iOS 26.

Liquid Glass is a transparent visual effect that gives the appearance of glass on system elements, including application folders, navigation bars, to the main screen. However, Apple is said to want to give users more control over the effect.

According to the report, Apple is developing a slider-based setting that allows users to adjust the intensity level of the glass effect throughout the system. Thus users can choose a display that is more transparent or more solid according to their preferences.

A similar feature is already used by Apple on the clock on the lock screen, but previously faced technical challenges to be implemented thoroughly in the operating system.

Even so, this major update is likely not to be present in iOS 26. Instead, new Siri features and more flexible Liquid Glass controls are expected to be part of the next generation of Apple's operating system, which is currently internally referred to as the "27" generation.

In the evolution of technology, digital assistants are like creatures that keep learning to walk. Siri was born as a simple voice command. Now the battlefield has changed into a long conversation with an AI that can think contextually.
