JAKARTA - Roblox is introducing a new way to control its user chat. They will stop using the '###' hashtag on censored sentences and change it more subtly.
This ability comes with the support of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The new system that Roblox developed can turn words that violate the rules into more polite sentences in all languages, including Indonesian.
Previously, Roblox would censor a full sentence with a hashtag when it found a word that violated their policy. This is often complained about by users because they will have trouble understanding the sentence from the interlocutor.
Fortunately, now the system will translate the message into a sentence that matches what the user typed, but with a better sentence. For example, if previously the user wrote 'hurry tf!', Roblox will change it to 'hurry!'.
"Real-time sentence modification helps keep the game on track while steering the language in the right direction," said Rajiv Bhatia, Vice President of User Products and Discovery at Roblox, quoted on Friday, March 6.
When a message is changed by the system, all players in the chat will receive a notification that the text has been adjusted. This step is taken to educate users to maintain decency during interaction in the game.
The feature is currently only available to users who have verified their age and are in a similar age group. The system also supports all languages available in Roblox's automatic translation tool.
In addition to changing the sentence, Roblox also improved the text filter to detect attempts to manipulate words using numbers or symbols. The company claims to have succeeded in reducing the leakage of personal information by 20 times through this update.
The English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and French versions are automatically generated by the AI. So there may still be inaccuracies in translating, please always see Indonesian as our main language. (system supported by DigitalSiber.id)
