JAKARTA - The X platform, formerly known as Twitter, is testing an application called X Chat through Apple's TestFlight platform. In the initial beta test, X Chat has been used by thousands of testers.

The trial program reached full capacity in just two hours after it was announced to the public. xAI product designer Michael Boswell confirmed that the beta participant quota had been expanded from 1,000 to 5,000 initial users.

"Over the past few months, we have quietly built a standalone X Chat app for iOS," wrote Michael Boswell via a post on his personal account, quoted on Thursday, March 5.

During this test, Boswell invited testers to find shortcomings in the application. These shortcomings will be feedback for the development team to improve the performance of the application.

Basically, X Chat is a Direct Messenger (DM) application that exists on the X platform and is renamed to Chat. This application separation is similar to Facebook which established a standalone application for Messenger.

X Chat is claimed to bring improvements to the end-to-end encrypted messaging feature that was previously available on the X platform. However, a number of security experts still doubt its level of security when compared to dedicated messaging apps such as Signal.

The interface of this application is described as simpler and smoother than when accessing messages through the X application. When entering the application, there is a background with a star theme and it is likely that this application will be renamed to 'xChat'.

Some of the main features such as verified badges and phone call support are currently still in development. Boswell explained that the message request system is being rebuilt to work better on this standalone app.

The conversation data on this application will be automatically synchronized with the main X application and the web version. Although currently only available for iOS users, the Android version of X Chat is promised to be available in the near future.
