JAKARTA - The Republic of Indonesia Defense University (UNHAN RI) officially partnered with Thales Indonesia, to start a collaboration in building local cybersecurity expertise.

Between January and July 2025, the National Cyber and Information Security Agency (BSSN) recorded 3.64 billion cyber attacks or traffic anomalies in the archipelago.

If targeted at critical infrastructure, government operations, or military systems, these attacks have the capacity to significantly threaten national security, disrupt essential services, and create economic instability.

Through this new collaboration with UNHAN RI, Thales reinforces its commitment to building local capabilities, improving human resources, and developing cyber literacy in one of the fastest growing digital economies in the world.

The first training class will be jointly selected by UNHAN RI and Thales, with the program expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.

"The RI Defense University is committed to preparing future defense leaders who are adaptive, technologically capable, and ready to respond to the ever-evolving security challenges," said Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Anton Nugroho, Rector of UNHAN RI.

Meanwhile, Thales Vice-President for Asia, Nicolas Bouverot also emphasized that this agreement represents Thales' commitment to train and nurture the next generation of cybersecurity talent who can help maintain Indonesia's defense.

"For the past 45 years, Thales has been assisting Indonesia's defense with critical systems supplied and maintained jointly with the Indonesian National Army. An important pillar of Indonesian sovereignty lies in cyber defense," added Nicolas.

He hopes that the partnership can become a model for future academic partnerships on broader topics in the future.
