Google has launched a new music creation feature on Gemini through the Lyria 3 generative AI model, which allows users to create a 30-second song with just a text command or photo and video upload.
Launched starting today in beta, the arrival of Lyria 3 is Google's next step in expanding artificial intelligence (AI) based creative expression, after previously presenting the ability to create images and videos in the Gemini application.
With Lyria 3, you only need to describe the desired song idea, for example genre, mood, tempo, to vocal style. The system then automatically generates complete music along with lyrics in seconds.
"Just describe an idea or upload a photo, like 'funny R&B slow jam about socks finding their match' and in seconds, Gemini will translate it into a high-quality, engaging song," the company wrote in its announcement.
In addition to text commands, Gemini can also turn photos or videos into songs. For example, upload a photo of a vacation or pet, then ask Gemini to make a song that matches the visual mood.
Google says Lyria 3 brings three major improvements over the previous model, namely automatic lyrics creation, wider creative control over musical elements such as style and tempo, and more realistic and complex audio quality.
Each song produced will last 30 seconds and come with an automatic cover art created using the Nano Banana model. The results can be downloaded or shared via a direct link.
"The goal of this track is not to create a musical masterpiece, but to give you a fun and unique way to express yourself," the search giant said.
Google also confirmed that all the generated audio will be embedded with SynthID, an invisible watermark developed by Google to mark AI-generated content.
The Lyria 3 music creation feature is available for users aged 18 and over in a number of languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese.
The launch was first for the desktop version and will follow in the mobile app in the next few days. Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra customers will get higher usage limits.
