JAKARTA - Roblox has started implementing a policy to verify the age of players in the US before accessing the chat feature. This feature will apply in every region that provides the chat feature in the near future.
The implementation of the age verification policy for the chat feature on Roblox has been launched gradually in December starting from Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.
In Indonesia, this provision also requires children under the age of 13 to obtain parental consent regarding the age verification process in order to gain access to the chat on Roblox.
"We are committed to providing the most security for users," said Matt Kaufman, Chief Safety Officer of Roblox, in a statement on Wednesday, January 14.
To perform the verification process for child or adolescent users, follow these steps:
Open the Settings menu in the Roblox app, then scroll down to the "Account Info" section, or directly select the Communication tab. Ask for Parent Approval: Click the "Ask Parent/Ask for Parent Access" button and enter the parent's email Notification for Parents and Account Creation: Parents will receive an email to create an account and connect it to the child's account. Verify Parent Age: Parents must verify their age with an ID card or credit card. Give Permission for Age Verification: Once the account is connected, parents must click "Allow" to allow their child to continue the age verification.Once users complete age verification, they will be grouped into one of six age groups: under 9 years old, 9-12 years old, 13-15 years old, 16-17 years old, 18-20 years old, and 21+.
Automatically, users can use the chat feature with their peers, as well as one level of age group above and below.
For example, users in the 9-12 age group can only use the chat feature with their age group and the 9-year-old and 13-15-year-old age groups.
"We guarantee space for users to work and connect with each other safely and pleasantly," said Kaufman.
