JAKARTA - Developer Rebellion Developments announced that its arcade sports game titled Speedball, will soon be out of Early Access.

First launched in early access on October 29, 2024, the game will be fully launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on January 27.

Speedball is a futuristic action sports game that revives the legendary Bitmap Brothers franchise that first came out in 1988.

The game is set in a dystopian world in 2138, when giant corporations create brutal, rule-less sports as a means of entertainment to distract an oppressed populace.

In Speedball, two teams of cyber-enhanced athletes face off in a high-speed, violent game that pushes the limits of normal human ability.

The game demands quick reflexes, teamwork, and mastery of high-speed passes and shots. Each match is short but explosive, with situations that can change drastically in a matter of seconds.

Since launching into Early Access in October 2024, developer Rebellion has continued to enrich the content and refine the game mechanics.

A number of major updates have been introduced, ranging from the League Mode which brings together 10 teams in a full season, to a tutorial system to make it easier for new players to understand the basics of the game.

Other updates include the addition of the Brutal arena variant, improved visual quality especially in collision effects, and a more precise shooting system.

Rebellion has also refined aspects of the gameplay such as the speed of the game, the role of the goalkeeper, and artificial intelligence (AI).

A total of eight new arenas are now available, complete with dynamic traps and obstacles such as flamethrowers, ice guns, and roller rails. Not to mention, a variety of armor sets and new color options also add variety and style to the game.
