Reddit Tests Gray Tick News To Confirm Identity

JAKARTA Reddit announced that the alpha trial is limited to its new feature, namely verified profile. Through this feature, Reddit will provide a gray checkmark for selected users.

This feature is designed to help users confirm the identity of individuals or businesses that interact with them. According to Reddit, verification is very important when dealing with experts, celebrities who hold question and answer sessions (AMA), journalists, or trusted brands.

This initial trial was internal and involved only a small group of public figures and trusted partners. The individuals chosen have identified themselves before, while the included business accounts have held the 'official' badge.

For verified individuals, they will get a gray tick next to the username across the platform. This sign will appear on the profiles, communities, news feeds, and search results.

In addition, the account can also access the Reddit Pro with a clearly visible entry point on their profile. For business accounts, their 'official' watermarks will be replaced with a new verified gray tick.

Reddit insists that this feature is designed to add clarity, not to provide specific status. In addition, this verification also aims to ease the burden of community moderators verifying users manually.

"Our approach to verification is voluntary, based on user choice, and explicitly not about status," said Reddit. The platform states that accounts that receive verification must follow all existing community rules and policies.
