Roblox Banned In Russia For LGBTQ Content, Millions Of Users Affected

JAKARTA Roblox, an online gaming platform that is still popular in a number of countries, is reportedly banned in Russia. The ban was issued because Roblox has LGBTQ content on its platform.

The decision was issued by the Russian Communications Agency, according to a Russian media report, TASS, which was reported through TechCrunch. Russia has a law (UU) that classifies LGBTQ as 'extremeist activity'.

As a platform that accommodates many games in it, Roblox is known to be friendly to various communities. This platform provides many types of games, ranging from exploration, military play, to LGBTQ-friendly places.

The friendliness of this platform to anyone keeps its user base increasing. Based on Appfigures, data from app intelligence firms, Roblox's number of downloads in Russia has reached 70 million times with 8 million downloads for this year.

This user's scale shows that millions of users will be affected by this ban. So far, Roblox has not commented on its platform which will be banned in Russia. It is not yet known when this ban will take effect.

This ban comes as Roblox is facing moderation and security issues in a number of countries. Recently, Roblox was highlighted in the US because it is suspected that this platform has the potential to provide gaps for child predators.
