JAKARTA A few months ago, a chatbot of Artificial Intelligence (AI) flocked to WhatsApp and Copilot became one of them. However, this chatbot will leave in the near future.

In October 2025, Meta, which oversees WhatsApp, announced a new policy on its messaging platform. This revised policy has an impact on all AI-based chatbots on WhatsApp, including ChatGPT.

At that time, Meta stated that they would no longer support public AI chatbots using WhatsApp Business API to serve customers. That way, users can only use the built-in chatbot from WhatsApp, namely Meta AI.

This decision basically ended WhatsApp's role as a third-party AI chatbot distributor. This policy not only affects Microsoft and OpenAI, but also other large AI companies such as Perplexity.

Therefore, Copilot will no longer be available on WhatsApp after January 15. If users want to use the AI chatbot from Microsoft, they must use the mobile version of the Copilot app or the web version on desktop.

Unfortunately, WhatsApp's chat history will not be saved automatically. This is because access to chatbots via WhatsApp is not authenticated to the user's Microsoft account.

For users who want to save a conversation, Microsoft recommends users to export their chat history. Users must use WhatsApp's built-in feature to export data before the January 15 deadline.
