X Introduces New Feature About This Account To Improve Profile Transparency

JAKARTA - X will be rolling out a new feature that allows users to be able to see more information about the X account, including their base location and how many times they have changed their username.

Called 'About this account', this feature will also reveal the country where the account was created and whether the account was connected through the web or through certain app stores.

When you read content on X, you should be able to verify its authenticity. As part of that, we experimented with showing new information on the profile, including the country where the account is located, among other details, "said X's chief product, Nikita Bier in his announcement.

X started testing this feature last month, and currently a number of users have shared screenshots showing the new feature has started rolling out.

In a couple hours, we'll be rolling out About This Account globally, allowing you to see the country or region where an account is based. This will be accessible by tapping the signup date on profiles.

It seems that this new feature is Elon Musk's effort to compete with other social media platforms, such as Facebook, which has Page Transparency and Instagram features with the About this account feature.

According to Nikita Bier's explanation, About this account was created to help verify the authenticity of the content published on the platform.

Currently, users can only see the details of their own account via the 'Joined' button under the bio, while access to other user account information will still be available gradually as the launch is full.

Users can also choose whether to display a country or region/continent, with default settings showing the country. X said it would add additional privacy options that users can enable.
