JAKARTA - Coinbase Global announced the launch of a new platform that allows individual investors to buy digital tokens before the tokens are officially listed on the company's crypto exchange. This news prompted Coinbase shares to rise by about 4% in the morning trading session, Monday 10 November.

Interests that continue to grow from retail and institutional investors towards digital assets encourage big players in this sector to expand their services and take advantage of opportunities in the trillions of dollars worth of crypto market.

In its official statement, Coinbase said it would hold about one token sale per month through the new platform. Determination of token allocations to investors will use a special algorithm, while purchases can be submitted within one week.

The current issuer of tokens has difficulty channeling their tokens into the hands of real users while building liquidity on the exchange. Coinbase changed that," the company wrote in its official blog post.

The launch of this platform is the first opportunity since 2018 for users in the United States to participate in public token sales. In the past, the Initial Coin Offering (ICO) was a popular fundraising method during the 2017 crypto boom, but later dimmed after regulators highlighted the issue of investor protection and transparency.

Coinbase plans to add a variety of new features in the coming months, including a larger limit order and allocation for groups of users who are the target issuers of tokens.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, token purchases on this platform will be made using USD Coin (USDC), stablecoins whose value is pegged against the US dollar and published by Circle Internet Group (CRCL.N).

The Monad blockchain project will be the first to offer its tokens through Coinbase's new platform next week, WSJ reports.
