JAKARTA - Samsung is preparing to showcase its newest innovation at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by presenting RAM for the next generation of LPDDR6 and SSD Gen5 in concise sizes optimized for artificial intelligence (AI).

This new memory technology promises higher data transfer speeds and better power efficiency, while its new SSD is designed to provide higher performance in smaller sizes for AI-based devices.

Although Samsung is better known through television, monitor, and smartphone products, this South Korean company is also a major player behind the screen of the semiconductor and memory industry. Ahead of CES 2026, Samsung confirmed plans to showcase two main products: LPDDR6 RAM and the latest MSD M.2 Gen5.

LPDDR6 RAM is built with a fabrication process of 12nm and is able to reach a transfer speed of up to 10.7 gigabits per second an increase of about 11.5% compared to the previous generation, LPDDR5X. In addition to increasing speed, LPDDR6 also offers 21% better power efficiency thanks to a dynamic power management system capable of adjusting energy consumption based on device workload. This RAM also has an expanded amount of I/O to support AI applications, edge computing (edge computing), and intensive data workload on mobile devices.

The second product to be displayed is SSD PM9E1 M.2 Gen5, which comes in a compact size of 22mm x 42mm. Samsung claims this is the world's first MSD PCIe Gen5 NVMe optimized for AI in that small size. This SSD is capable of reaching a sequential read speed of up to 14.8 GB/s and writing speeds of up to 13.4 GB/s, with a capacity of up to 4TB something rarely found in small SSDs.

SSD PM9E1 uses Samsung's own internal 'Presto' controller, combined with the latest V8 TLC V-NAND technology. This SSD power efficiency has increased by more than 50% compared to the previous generation, which will have a direct impact on device battery life, such as laptops and mobile phones running AI workloads.

For general users, this improvement means that device performance will be faster and responsive. Applications can be shorter open, multitasking more smoothly, and AI-based features can work more optimally. In addition, increased power efficiency also makes device batteries last longer important for mobile devices who are now increasingly utilizing generative AI technology.

Smaller SSD sizes also open up opportunities for thinner and lighter devices without sacrificing storage capacity or speed. Gamers will enjoy shorter game loading times, while content creators can transfer files and rendering process faster.

Samsung plans to officially feature these two innovations LPDDR6 RAM and SSD PM9E1 at the CES 2026 event in Las Vegas. However, the company has not announced a launch date or official price.
