JAKARTA Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced that Instagram is testing the ability to adjust content preferences at Reels. This feature is designed for wider controls.

This trial was revealed by Mosseri in Threads. In addition to announcing its testing, Mosseri also shared screenshots showing what the new feature looks like.

This feature allows users to add and remove topics based on their personal interests. Testing will begin for the first time on Reels, then the feature will be extended to the Explore feed.

"Today, we are starting to test how to customize your algorithm on Instagram by adding and removing the topic based on your interests. This feature will be rolled out for the first time on Reels, and will soon be extended to Explore," Mosseri said, quoted on Thursday, October 30.

Mosseri stated that this feature is designed to give users more control over Instagram's experience. This is in line with previous updates that support sensitive content restrictions and unattractive post tagging.

This ability also appears amid the trend in Threads, where users upload directed sarcastic posts directly to algorithms. This post asks for an algorithm to connect post uploaders with people who have similar interests.

Mosseri hopes this feature will be a new way for users to shape what they see. Users who gain access to this trial are encouraged to try it out and provide feedback to the team.

Mosseri did not specify which user will get access to testing on Instagram. There is also no certainty when this capability will be extended to its integrated microblog platform, namely Threads.
