JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) examines the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the world of education, especially for Indonesian teachers. The results show positive things.
In the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) event which was held some time ago, BRIN revealed that the teachers were familiar with the use of AI for learning. This research involved 922 teachers from various regions in the country.
BRIN Education Research Center researcher, Suarman Halawa, explained the findings of this study. Suarman said that, "They actively use AI to find innovative teaching methods and quickly compile teaching materials. The value of their knowledge is relatively high."
Although proficient in using, Suarman highlighted the weaknesses behind this AI adoption. Teachers' ability to modify and adjust AI-generated content is considered very limited.
AI is more widely used as an answer provider than a tool to design personal and contextual learning. This shows that the AI potential has not been fully maximized for pedagogical innovation.
"The most worrying aspect of this study is the low awareness of teachers about the risk of misinformation or inaccurate information from AI," said Suarman.

Suarman added that teachers tend to be less critical and easily believe in the information provided by AI. According to him, this happened because of the lack of support from schools where teachers teach.
Many teachers admit that they study AI self-taught because there are no official rules or guidelines from the school. For Suarman, this has the potential to cause serious problems because misinformation can be transferred to students without verification.
Research also shows a difference in AI awareness in each generation. Younger teachers are considered to be more aware of the risks of AI. Seeing this, BRIN recommends strategic steps such as providing AI training to teachers.
