Jakarta Surprise came from Google. Gemini AI's smart assistant who is scheduled to be on Google TV later this year turns out to have started rolling faster. In fact, this feature appeared earlier on several Sony Bravia TVs that run Android TV 14. This presence marks a new era for smart television: from just entertainment tools to devices with natural conversation skills supported by artificial intelligence.

Initial reports said Gemini AI is now replacing Google Assistant as the main assistant on Google TV platforms. The difference is, Gemini comes with more personal, contextual, and conversational abilities. Users no longer need to give rigid commands like 'Open Netflix. Now they can talk more naturally, for example, 'Show the highest-rated series on HBO Max,' or Tell me what happened in the last season of Outlander.

Gemini was also able to summarize daily news, display relevant YouTube clips, and create custom screens, making them not just a content searcher, but a smart screenmate.

Interestingly, in the initial setting process, users are given the choice of ten new AI votes such as Oxalis, Fern, Croton, Amaryllis, Pothos, and Calathea which were previously only available on Google Nest speakers. This signifies Google's great strategy: uniting the AI experience throughout the smart home ecosystem.

Previously, only the TCL QM9K series was confirmed to come with Gemini directly from the factory. But now, some Sony Bravia users report finding Gemini's setting view after updating the Google TV Home app via the Play Store a sign that its spread is starting to widen.

Google says the launch is still gradual and will expand to TCL and Hisense 2025 devices, as well as to Google TV Streamers and Walmart onn 4K Pro in the near future.

Early appearance on Sony Bravia could be a good signal for other Android TV 14 users. So, if after the app update you see a new Gemini icon on the main screen, congratulations you're among the first few to try out the future of AI-based television.
