Komdigi Inaugurates Indonesia Game Rating System, This Is An Explanation Of Its Function

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs inaugurated the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS), as a guide for the community and parents to choose a safe game according to their child's age.

Through the inauguration of the IGRS which was held at the Indonesia Game Developer EXchange (IGDX) 2025, Indonesia became the pioneer country in the ASEAN region which has a national game classification system in accordance with local values and wisdom.

Minister of Trade Meutya Hafid emphasized that the implementation of this IGRS is not only to protect the national game industry, but also players (gamers) in Indonesia.

"This IGRS application is carried out to protect the game industry, but at the same time it also protects gamers, especially children," Meutya said in an official broadcast quoted on Sunday, October 12.

He also emphasized that the implementation of the IGRS is a form of supervision of the digital space as well as the embodiment of PP TUNAS to protect children from exposure to content that is not age-appropriate.

The presence of the IGRS is expected to serve as a guideline for parents to find out the games that are suitable for children to play and in line with Indonesian norms and culture.

"Parents can be calmer because future game developers will make announcements in their respective games, what age is right to play the game," he continued.

IGRS has been initiated since 2016 through Permenkominfo No. 11/2016 concerning the Classification of Electronic Interactive Games. This rule is strengthened by Presidential Decree No. 19/2024 concerning the Acceleration of National Game Industry Development and Permenkominfo No. 2/2024 concerning Game Classification.

Where all games circulating in Indonesia, local and global, are classified by age: 3+, 7+, 13+, 15+, and 18+.
