JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs launched the 2025 Internet Village Program to expand internet access at 1,194 points in five provinces, starting with 307 points in North Sumatra.
The inaugural inauguration took place in Kramat Gajah Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, which will add to the 196-kilometer fiber optic cable network and become the first step in equitable distribution of national broadband services.
With the Internet Village, school children can learn more easily, MSMEs can expand the market, and village public services are getting faster. This is the driving force for village progress in the digital era," Meutya said in her official broadcast.
Apart from North Sumatra, four other provinces that will also get an Internet Village point in 2025 are NTB, Lampung, West Java, and Banten.
This program also supports the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) target which targets household broadband penetration to reach 50 percent, optical fiber network to 90 percent sub-district, and service speed of 100 Mbps by 2029.

The Kampung Internet program was carried out thanks to the collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Digo with the Association of Telecommunication Network Operators (Apjatel), local governments, and various stakeholders.
"To build connectivity, we cannot do it alone. The central, regional, industrial and community governments must join hands," said Meutya.
