JAKARTA - OpenAI announced a number of new steps to make ChatGPT more useful and safe to use, especially in handling sensitive conversations and protecting teenage users.
This step will be carried out for the next 120 days. One of the features that will be present within the next month is Parental Controls. Where, parents can link their accounts with teenage accounts (age at least 13 years old) through simple email invitations.
They can also adjust ChatGPT behavior to match age, disable certain features such as memory and conversation history, to receive notifications when the system detects children experiencing emotional stress.
In an announcement on its official website, OpenAI admitted that this feature was designed with the input of experts to maintain trust between parents and adolescents.
In addition to protection for teenagers, OpenAI also strengthens ChatGPT's ability to handle sensitive conversations. Reason models such as GPT-5-thinking will be used to provide more useful responses when signs of mental or emotional stress are detected.
This step was also guided by a board of experts consisting of mental health experts, youth development, and a global network of more than 250 doctors in 60 countries. Their input is used for security research, model training, to design of new features.
