Meta Consider Using Google AI Model And OpenAI To Strengthen Chatbot Features

JAKARTA Tech giant Meta Platforms is reportedly considering cooperation with two major rivals, Google and OpenAI, to improve the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in its applications. This report was submitted by The Information on Friday, August 29, citing internal company sources.

The leader at Meta Super Intelligence Labs' new AI division Meta is said to be exploring Google's Gemini model integration. The model will be used to provide text-based conversation answers to Meta AI users, the company's main chatbot.

In addition to Google, talks also include the possibility of leveraging OpenAI's model to strengthen Meta AI and other AI-based features on Meta social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

According to the report, this step is seen as a temporary solution while waiting for the development of Meta's own AI model. Meta's current priority is ensuring the next generation model, Llama 5, is able to compete with competing models in the market.

Meta already uses third-party AI models in several internal tools. For example, Meta employees can take advantage of Anthropic's model to help the codewriting process through the company's internal programming assistant.

That includes building our own world-class model, partnering with other companies, as well as opening-source technology," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft (OpenAI supporters) have yet to comment on the report.

Earlier this year, Meta poured billions of dollars into recruiting former CEO of Scale AI, Alexandr Wang, and former CEO of GitHub, Nat Friedman, to lead Meta Super Intelligence Labs. In addition, Meta is also offering a massive compensation package to attract dozens of top AI researchers.

Meta's move confirms the tighter AI technology competition, where large companies seek to integrate internal development strategies with external partnerships to provide the best AI experience for users.
