JAKARTA Meta has secretly acquired WaveForms, a startup that focuses on artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice technology. Although the acquisition has been revealed, it is not known how much it is worth.
This is not the first acquisition Meta made this year. In July 2025, the company that oversees Instagram and Facebook acquired an audio startup called PlayAI. These two acquisitions were made to strengthen the Super Intelligence Labs unit.
WaveForms is a company that is still relatively new because it was established about eight months ago. Recently, the company managed to raise funds of US$40 million (Rp650 billion) so that the value of the company became 160 million US dollars (Rp2.6 trillion).

After being recognized by Meta, the company has undergone many changes. The two founders of WaveForms, Alexis Conneau and Coralie Lemaitre, are known to have joined Meta. However, it is not yet known whether a number of WaveForms staff also joined Meta.
Based on TechCrunch's monitoring, WaveForms has shut down its own website, but not with its LinkedIn page. On the platform, WaveForms still describes the company's mission.
Currently, WaveForms is working on completing a 'Touring Speech Test' that can measure hearing abilities. This test is carried out to distinguish speech originating from human and AI-made sounds.
In addition, WaveForms is also developing 'General Emotional Intelligence'. This technology is developed with a focus on individual awareness and self-management. It is not yet clear what this technology is developing for.
