Jakarta - Artificial intelligence-based chatbots have seen a nearly double increase in users in the past year. But Google's dominance as the world's main search engine remains immovable. A recent study shows that the traffic to AI chatbots is growing rapidly, but it is still far behind the number of users of traditional search engines, especially Google.
Based on a report released by OneLittleWeb, between April 2024 and March 2025, the top ten AI chatbots collectively collected 55.2 billion visits. This represents a surprising 80.92% increase over the previous period, where chatbots recorded only 30.5 billion visits.
However, compared to search engine traffic, this figure looks small. In the same period, the top ten search engines recorded a total visit of 1.86 trillion times 34 times more than chatbots.
ChatGPT Becomes Chatbot Leader, But Google Is Unmatched
OpenAI with ChatGPT is still a leader in the world of AI chatbots. ChatGPT recorded 47.7 billion visits, an increase of 67.09% from the previous year. Even so, this figure is still far from Google itself receiving 1.63 trillion visits or 26 times more than ChatGPT.
This data shows that although AI chatbots are increasingly being used for various needs such as writing, summarizing, or answering questions, search engines remain the main door for the world community to explore the internet.
In fact, although overall traffic to search engines fell slightly by 0.51%, some search engines actually grew, such as Microsoft Bing (up 27.77%) and Yandex (up 32.65%).

This growth is also driven by AI integration in search engines. Google, for example, introduces AI Overviews and AI Mode features that combine AI sophistication into traditional information search experiences.
On the other hand, some AI chatbots have just recorded fantastic growth. DeepSeek is experiencing an increase in traffic of more than 100,000%, while Elon Musk's Grok's AI product of X is up to 350,000% compared to last year.
From the available data, it is clear that AI chatbots are not a direct threat to search engines, but a complement. The two of them grew together, filling in different needs from internet users. Chatbot excels in conversation and personalization, while search engines remain the main tool for navigating the web at large.
At least for now, Google's search engine, especially the absolute king of the internet.
