JAKARTA Google is testing a new feature for the Gmail app on Android devices. In the near future, users can tag incoming emails as read messages, directly from notifications.

Currently, users can also tag incoming emails as read messages. However, to flag the message, users must open the application first because Gmail does not provide shortcuts in the notification section.

Fortunately, this issue will be resolved after Google launched an update to the Gmail app. This feature was first spotted by Pembocor Kurt Gomez on platform X, citing the Android Authority report.

Gomez shared the appearance of her Gmail notification which contained three shortcut buttons, including Mark Already Read, Delete, and Reply. This feature will be available on the Gmail application with version 2025.06.15.

Apparently, this feature is still in the testing phase so that only a few users will get the feature. So far, few users have reported that they have seen the feature.

It is not known how long Google will test its features with a small group of users. If you experience any problems or unfavorable responses, Google can cancel the launch of its features at any time.

However, the Mark Has Read feature got a positive response so far. The Mark Has Read Shortcut will probably be more popular after Google expands its features to the Gmail app available on iOS.
