Siri Chatbot Prototype Closes To ChatGPT Quality, But Still Often Experiencing Hallucination

JAKARTA - The latest report reveals that internally, Apple has tested the Large Language Model (LLM) models for Siri which are much more sophisticated than the Apple Intelligence that has been in use so far. However, Apple executives still do not agree when this technology should be released to the public.

Apple is not left behind in AI developments, even Apple regularly publishes research that shows significant progress in this area. According to Bloomberg, Apple is now testing an AI system with a much larger model size than the 2024 version of Apple Intelligence which is only about 3 billion parameters.

Apple is reportedly testing several models with sizes of 3 billion, 7 billion, 33 billion, up to 150 billion parameters. In comparison, this 150 billion parameter model is said to be close to the quality of the latest ChatGPT.

The small version of Apple Intelligence model was deliberately created in order to run directly on the device without the need to send data to the cloud. While these large models are cloud-based and offer much better performance.

However, the main problem that is still a concern is the high level of hallucinations or misinformation generated by AI. Apple is reportedly delaying the launch of this latest model because the level of hallucinations is considered too high.

In addition, there are differences in philosophy among senior Apple executives regarding the launch time of this Siri chatbot model. Perhaps these differences are related to the level of tolerance for AI hallucinations.

It was also reported that Siri's former head, John Giannandrea, rejected the launch of the model under current conditions, while several other executives prefer to immediately launch more sophisticated Siri chatbots.

Due to this dissent, it is likely that a major announcement regarding Apple Intelligence on WWDC this year will be less than in previous years. Even so, WWDC events are still expected to feature dramatic redesigns for Macs, iPhones, and iPads inspired by the experience of Apple Vision Pro users.
