JAKARTA - The latest YouGov survey found that 36% of Indonesian respondents expressed a positive attitude towards the increasing role of artificial intelligence (AI) far higher than the average of 17 other countries by 24%.
Interestingly, 34% of Indonesian respondents also admitted to being careful of the role of AI in their lives, this figure is much higher than Hong Kong (11%) and Singapore (27%), showing an open but critical attitude.
"This survey shows that the Indonesian people are optimistic about the role of AI in their lives, and is also among the most comfortable with the various digital content produced by AI," said General Manager of YouGov Indonesia, Edward Hutasoit.
But behind optimism, there are concerns. Where about 48% of Indonesian consumers are concerned about the loss of human touch in AI-made content.
Of this number, 46% of Indonesian respondents said they were worried about the privacy and use of data, and another 32% worried about the risk of misinformation and deepfakes.
Indonesian consumers are also among the most open with AI-based content in various formats. This survey noted that 58% of Indonesian respondents were comfortable with the images produced by AI, and 56% were also comfortable with video content.
This level of convenience is also supported by a high level of confidence in AI-made news. As many as 70% of Indonesians say they trust AI-generated news.

Even so, 77% of respondents also emphasized the importance of transparency, especially in clearly mentioning if content was created by AI. While 54% of respondents felt that the current regulations were sufficient, the rest considered the need for tighter supervision.
"In Indonesia, the balance between the benefits of technology and information disclosure will be the key to maintaining public trust," concluded Edward.
