JAKARTA - Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, admitted his mistake with Google Glass in an interview. He also said that smart glasses now make much more sense, thanks to advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Technology has now followed the vision.

Google I/O 2025 just started yesterday, as many public know. Sergey Brin from Google was interviewed on stage, and he discussed smart glasses, including Google Glass.

Brin, who is also one of the founders of Google, became a pretty surprising guest in an interview with Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis. Both were interviewed by Alex Kantrowitz of the Big Technology Podcast.

In the interview, Brin admitted that he "made a lot of mistakes with Google Glass." He said he didn't know anything about the consumer's electronic supply chain or how difficult it was to produce glasses at a reasonable price in the market.

However, he noted that he strongly believes in the shape and concept of these smart glasses, and is very happy that Google is now focusing on this product again. Brin added that this time, Google has a "great partner who helps" in developing the product.

Google also discusses Android XR smart glasses in their keynotes. The company even demonstrated the product, and provided participants with the opportunity to give it a try. Alexander Maxham of our team was also there and managed to try the glasses.

He describes the experience and he looks at the future for this product. In fact, he said that if given the opportunity, he would replace Meta Ray-Bans with the smart glasses.

To realize these glasses, Google is working with various partners, including Samsung and XREAL. The company has also invested up to 150 million US dollars in partnership with Warby Parker.

Brin added that the genrative AI is now making the ability of smart glasses a lot more real than when Google Glass was first launched. This is true, and many say that Google Glass comes too early, as a product, and we agree with that.
