JAKARTA - Google Maps has just presented a highly anticipated advanced feature. But unfortunately, only iOS users can enjoy it first. The feature in question is a screenshot-shooting tool that allows Google Maps to automatically recognize location information from screenshots on users' devices and save them as a list of locations that can be accessed again at any time.

This feature was first announced in March 2025 and has now officially started rolling out to the Google Maps app on iOS. Supported by Gemini's artificial intelligence technology, this feature is capable of detecting location addresses or information in screenshot images, then suggesting it be stored directly into the Maps app.

Once the user opens Google Maps on iOS, a screenshot containing location information will appear at the top of the "You" tab, marked by the "Try it now!" When the badge is tapped, the user will see a short video that explains how the feature works, as well as try to directly watch it.

In order for this feature to work, users must give permission to access photos or galleries. Google offers several permission options that can be selected according to the user's preferences, including manual options for those who don't want to give full access.

Once the permission is granted, Maps will automatically recognize screenshots containing location data. Users will receive a notification that there is a new location that is ready to be reviewed. From there, users can decide whether they want to save it in the list on Google Maps or not. In addition, users can also upload a screenshot manually to the screenshot section on the "You" tab.

Unfortunately, for Android users, this feature is not yet available. Google has confirmed that a similar feature will be coming soon for Android, but has not yet provided an exact date for its launch. This certainly makes many Android users feel left behind and hopes that the feature will soon follow.

With the presence of this sophisticated tool, Google Maps is increasingly showing its transformation as a smarter and personal digital travel assistant. But for now, this advantage still belongs to exclusive iPhone users.
